Pregnant woman waiting for her Doula Ottawa while in early labour. She is wearing a white shirt and has a white bracelet on. She is sitting on a couch.

It might start in the night … a little cramp in the lower abdomen that you don’t pay much attention to. And then there is a second 20 minutes later … and then a 3rd! You sit up in bed and wonder “is this it?! Am I in labour?!”

It is very normal to feel excited when labour starts! Many of us hyper focus on the contractions (how can we not?) because we are so nervous, and excited, and ready to meet our baby! However, it's important to remember that early labour sets the stage for the subsequent stages. Also, managing your energy in the earlier stages will have a direct impact on whether or not you have the stamina you need for the more challenging stages of labour.

Want to know more? We would love you to join us for our FREE one hour workshop all about early labour! During our time together we will walk you through what early labour actually looks and feels like, how to conserve energy for birth, ways your birth partner can be supportive, how to know when it’s time to reach out to your doula or head to your chosen place of birth, and more! We would love to have you attend!
